DOWNTOWN. Asylum caters to the goth and alternative crowd. That may mean everyone in the club is wearing their blackest, spikiest best, or it may mean a more varied crowd, but the people who come here are, perhaps surprisingly, welcoming and non-judgmental. You'll fit in even in jeans and a t-shirt. The ambience is a tad more upscale than you might expect too, with elegant black and white photos, original paintings, and candles scattered about. It's all very moody, but in a good way. The music varies a bit from night to night, so call ahead if you're looking for something specific; and, yes, even here, all the Wildcat basketball games (go UA!!) are shown on the plasma TV behind the bar.

NORTH TUCSON. Fun events fill the schedule at this tri-level hotspot, which is particularly popular among the college crowd and young professionals. The quirky interior is decorated with local art, assorted knick knacks, and television showing prominent sporting events. The dance floor fills up quickly on Wednesday and Friday, when DJs play hip-hop and dance music. Sunday night features the always-entertaining Mexican karaoke. The kitchen serves an extensive menu until 10pm. Locals swear by the burgers, and the place is very kid-friendly.

EAST TUCSON. For line dancing, two-stepping, and beer drinking, this is a top venue. Country swing lessons are offered, so you can join in with the regulars for a honky-tonk good time. Or, if you prefer, the wide-open interior offers great spots to watch the action. Live country and Western music is often featured.

EAST TUCSON. The music at DV8 varies every night, so the crowd does as well. One night, salsa lovers come to samba, rumba and merengue, while the next night might draw a college crowd for hip-hop and R&B. Whatever the theme, you can be sure the huge dance floor will be packed. Other distractions include pool tables, several TVs and plenty of tables and booths where you can hang with your friends and chat.

EAST TUCSON. Country and Western music is extremely popular in Tucson, and this honky-tonk is a classic example of where locals meet up for conversation, drinks, and a few spins on the dance floor. The simple, country-style interior is always full of regulars in their best Western gear. Live music sometimes featured. Great drink specials and a friendly, laid-back vibe.
